Each week elementary students attend music, art, physical education, computer, and library classes taught by trained teachers in each field of study. Traditional students in grades 2 through 5 attend Spanish class. Computer classes begin for traditional students in grade 1, while the UM® students start computer in grade 2.
MusicStudents in grade 4-12 have the opportunity to play a musical instrument and participate in band, orchestra, and choir. These programs are designed to teach the fundamentals of music. Students strive for excellence, both individually and as a group.
ArtArt classes emphasize individual creativity since we are made in the image of a creative God.They include a variety of elements of art and principles of design. Art history is incorporated into hands-on application of many art media.
Physical EducationPhysical education is a vital part of equipping students to love God with all their strength. Fitness training and physical skills development, along with many games, are incorporated each week into physical education class.
ComputerStudents are introduced to computers and learn the basic components of a personal computer system and how to use it. They learn how to log on and log off a workstation, to create folders and documents, and to save them to the correct folder. They are introduced to keyboarding, desktop publishing, internet search tools, and digital citizenship. Students will learn to manipulate fonts, colors, and other desktop publishing settings. They are also introduced to basic computer graphics and internal components of a computer. They develop their ability to manipulate text and graphics and learn how to integrate the two into one document or presentation. Students will develop their ability to manipulate document layouts and images to create well organized and colorful projects.
LibraryThrough the elementary libraries students can utilize the entire LCCS library collection which contains over 10,000 items. Additions to the libraries are added regularly. Students also have access to a variety of data bases and online resources that are made available through our website. Students are encouraged to check out books during each visit. The librarian endeavors to integrate classroom units of study with resources from the library collection. The library is an integral part of the education progress.
